Meet the counsellor

Who am I

I pride myself on being down to earth, most of all... I'm human, just like you. I've got all the regular roles and masks to juggle, from daughter to mother, friend to family member, I've been employed and an employer. Needless to say in my 40 years so far I've probably had personal experience of at least half of issues listed in what I work with, so I feel that enables me to empathise and understand the difficulties life throws at us.

I'm a firm believer in the healing power of nature and the benefits we get from being outdoors. So my own therapy, is all about getting outdoors... whether it's pottering in the garden, a walk on the canal or hiking in the mountains nothing clears your mind like the colours and sounds of nature. That sad, living in the UK, SAD is also the cause of my need for outdoor therapy.

My experience and how I work

I finished my training in 2018 after a career change and worked in general practice with a wide range of presenting issues at Bradford counselling service for over two years, before setting up my private practice that I now run full time. I work individually 1-2-1, with all genders and sexuality, generally with clients from age 18+ unless it's to support a particular issue I feel adequately experienced in. I’m fully insured and a registered member of the BACP, I also work in line with their ethical framework which includes having regular clinical supervision and CPD.

Whilst training, I worked in placement as a volunteer counsellor at Mosaic II in Bradford which was a specialised sexual abuse service, working with survivors and family members of those affected by sexual abuse.

Prior to that, whilst in my early training I worked as a volunteer support worker at behind Closed Doors in Leeds, a domestic abuse organisation supporting clients to understand the abuse they had suffered, make positive changes to their lives, living free from abuse and how to protect themselves from future abuse.

Whilst I work in general practice with a broad range of issues, I have a passion for supporting people through bereavement and recovering from abusive relationships.

My goal is to work with you, to help you gain insight and understanding of yourself, your emotions and behaviours. Sometimes we become defined by external values, expectations or relationships losing our sense of self, counselling helps us to process the things we are struggling with.
